Those members who attended the Woods Watch Walk on May13th
were treated to a marvellous display of bluebells, in places accompanied by
late primroses. Jan McMurdie led us to some beautiful early purple orchids
found by her and Pete. For most it was the first time they had seen these in
Kilminorth Woods. Pete and Derek have begun monitoring the six new nest boxes
put up earlier this year, and five are already in use - four by blue tits and
one by great tits! One already has babies. Posted

This year's Dawn Chorus Walk on May 5th was well-attended
despite indifferent weather - cloudy, cool and damp. 18 hardy souls convened at
5 am. Despite the conditions we still heard or saw 33 species of bird (3 more
than last year), plus 3 roe deer and a grey squirrel. The most striking thing
was the large number of singing goldcrests, with this species obviously doing
well after a mild winter. A hearty breakfast at Tasty Corner in West Looe
restored the inner Friends, some of whom then ran a fund-raising stall at the
West Looe May Fair! Posted 05.05.12

Spring has been a busy time for wildlife in Kilminorth Woods with
birds nesting and flowers and trees bursting back into life. It has also been
busy for the Friends, with maintenance work, dormouse boxes installed, litter
picks and walks. Duloe company, Bird Box Camera Gifts, has donated some
surplus boxes to us (not cameras) and have been recognised as corporate
members. Our other corporate member, Llansalos Parish Council, is now
Polperro Community Council and has a new website. See our
new corporate page for more details. We
are now looking forward to a summer of activities. several of which we work
with partner organisations, such as Cornwall Wildlife Trust, to put on. A quick
reminder for those who haven't yet renewed membership, this is now due and the
Friends will be pleased to have you on board for the coming year.

January has been a busy month for the Friends. The year started as
usual with the Resolution Walk - the best attended yet, not that that
had anything to do with chocolate! This was followed by rhododendron
clearance and ride clearance.
As Dr Derek Spooner said on
facebook 'Another good day of practical work keeping the main bridle path open,
led by Jenny, with excellent support from Al, Graeme and Christine, and two
students from Duchy College. Thanks to all. Elsewhere in the woods I spotted
treecreeper, nuthatch, great spotted woodpecker, goldcrest and 5 species of
tit. Shelduck are already back on the river and the herons are building nests
in Trenant Woods..... Spring is on the way!!'
Finally, in January the
annual Meal with Friends was a curry night held in the ever popular
Moonlight in Looe. Wildlife spotted this month also included: a fox eyeing up
